TREASURE CHEST: 19th Century Antique European Hand-painted Porcelain Armorial Square Tray

$75.00

This antique European porcelain tray is designed as a scalloped square dish featuring an intricate armorial coat of armsat its center. The primary heraldic motif is a striking crowned imperial double-headed eagle clutching a central shield, flanked by ornate scroll work and a traditional crown. Encircling this crest are vibrantly hand-painted asymmetrical floral arrangements, rendered in the classic 18th-century Deutsche Blumen style with rich pink, purple, and green enamels. The piece is finished with a gently fluted or molded rim, highlighted by a fine, wavy gilded border that accentuates its elegant, historical form.

Excellent condition. No chips, cracks. Vivid color. Nice gold paint rim. Today, this antique dish seamlessly blends history with modern functionality. Use it as a chic vanity tray for everyday jewelry. It can be used in a guest bathroom for a bar of soap, extra clean toothbrush, wash cloth, etc. It also works perfectly as an entryway catchall for keys. Alternatively, style it on a coffee table to add unique historical character. Always hand-wash only to protect the delicate hand-painted enamel and gold rim.

The underside of the vessel features a hand-painted blue script mark reading "R.X. 1756." Historically, this monogram signature corresponds directly to the workshop of Joseph-Gaspard Robert, a legendary 18th-century ceramicist operating in Marseille, France. While the written date references the peak era of classic French ceramic production, the brilliant white paste and perfectly smooth glaze composition indicate that this is a highly collectible 19th-century revival piece. Prominent European reproduction workshops, most notably Edmé Samson of Paris, routinely recreated prestigious 18th-century dinnerware styles, meticulously copying original factory hallmarks and historic production dates to cater to affluent period collectors.

In addition to the manufacturer stamp, the reverse side preserves a clear window into the piece's recent provenance via a vintage paper label. The small rectangular sticker displays handwritten inventory numbers "3367" and "A 152", alongside the specific calendar date of October 15, 1976. This marker represents an official estate cataloging or auction house tracking system from the mid-20th century. A larger rectangular adhesive stain nearby reveals where a secondary pricing or collection label was previously affixed, verifying that the dish was part of a well-documented private collection or antique trade network.

The estimated fair market value for this antique 19th-century French revival armorial porcelain dish is between $150 and $350 USD.
